A deep-dive into how Nexsales engineers built a propensity model across 3.5M+ ICP contacts — and what it takes to hit 80% validated accuracy.
Most generic intent platforms claim predictive scoring capabilities. In practice, their accuracy sits at 55–65% when validated against actual closed-won data from a specific client's TAM. That's marginally better than random.
The Nexsales Predictive Account Scoring model — deployed across client programmes and validated against historical pipeline outcomes — consistently reaches 80% accuracy. This post explains exactly how we built it and why the architecture decisions we made are the reason it performs differently from off-the-shelf alternatives.
The fundamental difference between a 65% accurate model and an 80% accurate one is training data specificity. Generic intent platforms train on industry-wide data. Our models train on client-specific data — the actual closed-won and closed-lost history from the client's own CRM, layered with their engagement signals across their specific GTM channels.
An account that looks like a buyer in a generic B2B dataset may look nothing like a buyer in a cybersecurity SaaS company's historical pipeline. The model has to know the difference.
Our feature engineering draws from six data source categories:
Raw signals don't predict. Engineered features do. The model generates hundreds of potential predictive features from the raw data, including:
Before deployment, every model is validated against held-out historical data — typically the last 12 months of closed pipeline. The 80% accuracy benchmark is measured against this validation set, not claimed theoretically.
Post-deployment, models are retrained quarterly as new deals close and new engagement data accumulates. Accuracy typically improves over the first four quarters as the model learns from real outcomes in the client's specific market.
Model scores are deployed daily into the client's CRM and sales engagement platform — giving BDRs a ranked account queue each morning that reflects the previous day's engagement signals. In programmes running this model, account-to-meeting conversion rates improve by 40–60% versus non-scored outreach, and marketing spend directed at top-scored accounts sees 2.5–3× better SQL conversion.
